May 5th 2024 - Alter Flowers are presented by Catherine Elmore in honor of God's children and in remembrance of all that Jesus Christ gave to us through his death on the cross.
Alter Flowers Given By: Mike & Norma Walters in honor of their son Michael's birthday - their anniversary & their daughter Ashley's birthday - all this month
From:Michigan (would come down to play golf with the fellas and decided he'd like to retire here)
Spouse:Judy (told me at least 10x how lucky he was to get her!)
Hobbies:Golf & Woodworking
Retired:Throughthe years Verne's hard work and dedication enabled him to work some interesting jobs - a Pipeline - GM - Consumers Power - a supervisor at a Nuclear Training Center. One position even sent him to live in South America for 5 years!
Why Trinity:Verne had a neighbor that he would walk his dog with - unfortunately, that neighbor (Don Little) passed away. It was when Verne attended his funeral at TUMC that he felt as if lighting had struck him ... this was it, this would be the church he and Judy would attend.
Joined Trinity:In 2020 Verne & Judy joined TUMC. Since then, Verne has been one of the most helpful/kind/active members of the church.
Advice you would give someone who's not sure about attending church:This was an easy answer. Verne would encourage the person to just "give it a try" - and to get involved to see what it's like.
If you could have dinner with anyone in the Bible (NOT Jesus) who would it be:After listening to Verne tell me about all the interesting positions he held throughout the years and the fact he likes woodworking AND because I see him working on issues at the church .... I should have guessed this one!! It's NOAH! Why, lol, because he would like to sit and talk with him to learn how the Ark was built - down to the last detail.
Favorite Hymn:Just A Closer Walk with Thee
Favorite Book:Verne likes most all historical books, but his favorite is about the Panama Canel. The book is titled -
A Path Between Two Seas
Favorite Local Restaurant:Rios Brazilian Steakhouse
Remember, Verne was sent to work in South America? Well, because he lived in Brazil - this is the closet he can get to eating that type of food again.
Bucket List:Yes! He has a bucket list. When I asked what the top three might be, this is what he told me - He would definitely like to Skydive - he would want to see the Titanic and because of his love of all things historical, Verne would like to take a trip to Normandy!
* a fun fact about him that came out when we were speaking about Normandy and travel - Verne was a foreign exchange student and lived in Holland!
Verne -
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. You are so very kind and fascinating; I could sit and listen to your stories all day! I told you at the end how blessed you are - I think that's because you are such a blessing to others!!
Can't thank you enough,
Patti
